GSG was created by our son, Christopher. His first picture
book was Animal Fact File and was a gift from his Uncle Eric. In this book was a picture of a sugar glider. Much
to the dismay of his mom, Chris is just like dad and he had to have one! Well, dad thought they were
pretty interesting too and being the compulsive person that I am, flew to Texas and purchased our first pair of gliders.
One thing lead to another, and, to make a long story short, we
applied for and received our USDA license in 2004. We are the first licensed sugar glider breeders in New
Hampshire. For those who are unaware of the process, this means that we are required by law to open our
business, unannounced, to a USDA inspector annually. During this inspection, our breeding facility is thoroughly inspected
for cleanliness and our gliders are checked to ensure they are being properly cared for. In addition, the USDA
requires veterinary health inspections to be performed annually on our breeders. This sounds like a lot to
go through every year but consider what it means to you, a perspective granitestateglider owner: You are assured a
healthy joey that has been properly cared for and is guaranteed not to be in-bred. We handle our joeys daily
and when they are finally released to their new homes they are healthy, happy, and fully accustomed to human companionship.
As for mom, she is now the Managing Director
of Granite State Gliders, LLC.!
